LEARN THE LINGO
Fragrance terms can be confusing. Tap below to explore what they mean and how they affect your scent experience.
What does “Ozonic” mean?
It’s a light, airy scent that mimics the smell of fresh air after a thunderstorm—often described as “clean” or “cool.” Common in aquatic fragrances.
What’s the difference between Vanilla and Tonka Bean?
Vanilla is sweet and familiar. Tonka Bean is deeper, slightly nutty, and has a tobacco-like warmth. Often used together for a complex base.
Why do some scents smell different on me?
Your skin’s pH, moisture, and oils interact with the fragrance, changing how notes evolve. Body chemistry can amplify or mute ingredients.
Is Musk an animal scent?
Natural musk came from animals, but modern musk is synthetic. It smells warm, clean, soft, and slightly powdery—common in base notes.
What is a Gourmand fragrance?
It smells like food—desserts in particular. Think vanilla, caramel, coffee, chocolate, almond, and sugar. Sweet and cozy.
What is “Projection”?
Projection is how far a fragrance pushes off your skin. A strong projector fills the room; a soft one stays close to the skin.
What does “Sillage” mean?
Sillage is the scent trail left behind when you walk by. It’s different from projection—some fragrances cling close but leave a strong trail.
What is a “Skin Scent”?
A fragrance that sits very close to the body, often detectable only by someone very near. Intimate, subtle, and personal.
